Langouste

Changelog

What changed in each version of Langouste.

0.10.13

2 Nov 2026
  • A settings file from an older version now keeps the double-space period on; it used to come back off.

0.10.12

2 Nov 2026
  • Adding and editing Conversions in Settings is easier: the language menus list only languages with a keyboard layout installed here, the word and its result are two fields that fill each other in, the arrow between the menus swaps the languages, and a saved result can be clicked and edited like its word.
  • The update offer window is wider, so its three buttons, "Skip this version", "Later" and "Update and restart", always sit on one row, in Ukrainian too, with Skip on the left as in a Mac alert.

0.10.11

1 Nov 2026
  • New: English in password fields. When a password field gets the keyboard, Langouste switches to an English layout and puts your layout back when you leave the field. Settings › Text › Passwords has a switch for it. Mac only for now.
  • The account moved to the Settings header: a Sign in or Account button at the right, and a menu with Settings sync, What syncs, Manage account and Sign out.
  • The Excluded apps list no longer crashes Settings when it opens, and Choose app now opens the Mac's own app picker.
  • Shortcuts with ⌘, such as ⌘Space, can now be recorded in Settings on the Mac, and they show as ⌘ instead of Win.
  • The Settings window comes to the front when other windows cover it.
  • On Windows, the "You're up to date" message from Check for Updates now opens in front of Settings instead of behind it.
  • An empty Excluded apps list now says "No apps yet" instead of "No groups yet".
  • Settings closes together with Langouste, so the app can be replaced or updated without a leftover window.
  • Settings is tidier: error messages no longer overlap other controls, long names in lists are shortened, and the sync status and what to sync share one row.
  • The switcher plate preview has a softer look, and Solid or Glass is offered only where the system has real glass (macOS 26). Each word in the Always convert list now shows the text it turns into.

0.10.9

1 Nov 2026
  • Pressing Fn while typing a word converts it to the other layout, and each press cycles it on (0.10.8 left the word as it was).

0.10.8

1 Nov 2026
  • Switching layouts with Fn converts the word being typed to the new layout again, and each press cycles it on.

0.10.7

1 Nov 2026
  • After an update Langouste starts again by itself, also when one of its windows was still closing.

0.10.6

1 Nov 2026
  • Choosing Settings in the menu brings the open Settings window to the front even when other windows cover it completely.

0.10.5

1 Nov 2026
  • The switcher plate's corners follow the rounding of the chosen layout's highlight.

0.10.4

1 Nov 2026
  • Choosing Settings in the menu while the Settings window is open brings it to the front instead of leaving it behind other windows.
  • Settings › Layouts names a layout synced from another computer by the one this computer uses for it («ABC» instead of «US → ABC»).

0.10.3

1 Nov 2026
  • Quitting Langouste closes its open windows too, and a closed window no longer leaves its process behind: either kept the app in use, and the Finder would not replace it with a new version.
  • Settings › General › Account: what this computer syncs is one row with a menu of checkboxes instead of three switches.

0.10.2

1 Nov 2026
  • Mac: updates install again. 0.10.0 and 0.10.1 refused every update as "not the version named in the feed": install this one from langouste.app once, and later ones come by themselves.

0.10.1

1 Nov 2026
  • Settings keeps one size for every tab instead of following each tab's height, so it no longer jumps when it opens or when you switch tabs; a taller tab scrolls.
  • The sync switches in Settings › General › Account no longer push the right-hand column out of the window: when they do not fit on one row, each takes a row of its own.
  • Every Langouste window carries the Langouste icon (on Windows the title bar showed a generic one).

0.10.0

1 Nov 2026
  • The Mac app is now the same app as on Windows, written once: Settings, About and the update window look and behave alike on both. Your settings, account and Accessibility permission come over from the previous version.
  • Sync carries lists only: word lists among all your computers; excluded apps and text hotkeys among your Macs and among your PCs, each separately. Settings › General › Account chooses what this computer syncs, from nothing to all three.
  • A group's shortcut is Fn (the tap key) alone, or ⌘, ⌥ or ⌃ with Space, an F-key or an arrow: letters, digits and signs are for typing. A shortcut on a letter you already have keeps working and Settings › Layouts asks you to set another.
  • Windows: a group's shortcut no longer stops working after its first switch (Windows' own Ctrl on a layout change was taken for a held key), and AltGr counts as Alt, as ⌥ does on the Mac.

0.9.8

1 Nov 2026
  • Groups mean languages, not exact layouts: on a Mac or a PC that lacks a layout of a group, its own layout of the same language is used (French QWERTY for AZERTY, U.S. for ABC, a PC's layouts for a Mac's and the other way round). The group itself stays as it was, so sync loses nothing, and Mac and Windows follow one rule.
  • When a machine has no layout of a group's language, Settings › Layouts says «— not on this Mac» with «Add to this Mac», which turns one on (on Windows: «Add in Settings…»).
  • Layouts are named exactly as macOS names them, in the app's language: «Українська», «Російська — ПК».
  • Text fixes move between the layouts this machine actually uses for the group.

0.9.7

1 Nov 2026
  • A group synced from another Mac now switches on a Mac that lacks one of its layouts: this Mac's layout of the same language stands in for it (ABC on one Mac, U.S. on another), as the Windows app already did. The plate shows the layout used, and Settings › Layouts shows «ABC → U.S.».
  • A layout this Mac lacks is named («ABC») instead of shown by its system ID.

0.9.6

31 Oct 2026
  • Settings › General › Account is shorter: the email is a link to your account with Sign out on the same line.
  • Settings sync has a switch and sits on one line, with the time of the last sync and a refresh button.
  • Layouts are named in the app's language, so a Ukrainian layout is no longer shown with a Russian name when Russian comes first in the system's languages.
  • The switcher plate is tighter: less padding around the layouts.
  • Windows: the settings window follows each tab's height without flicker and stays above the taskbar.

0.9.5

31 Oct 2026
  • Settings › General now holds Feedback (sound and the plate flash), moved from Text.
  • In Text, the Always convert and Exceptions lists are one panel of rows (name, count, pencil), and Excluded apps is its own card in the right column.
  • In Layouts, − now comes before + under the group list; in Account, Sign out sits on the right.
  • The About panel names the developer and gives a contact address.
  • The settings window is as tall as the tab it shows, with the same margin below as at the sides.
  • General is the first tab in Settings, and Interface (appearance, language) is at its top left.
  • Settings › General › Switcher plate › Show the plate has a new choice, “Don’t show”; with no plate the typed word follows the new layout at once.
  • Pressing Fn again while a word is half typed switches it back and forth every time: the Globe key reporting itself no longer ends the word.

0.9.4

30 Oct 2026
  • Typing a word and switching the layout now retypes the word in the new layout at once; with three or more layouts in a group, when the plate goes away.
  • The chosen layout on the plate is a darker grey that is easy to see.
  • Settings › General › Focus: Langouste is off in games and full-screen apps (on by default).
  • Settings sync: all settings, including the word lists, follow your account to every Mac; Settings › General › Account shows the state.

0.9.3

29 Oct 2026
  • Langouste updates itself: “Update and restart” downloads the new version, checks it and restarts into it, instead of opening the browser.
  • When it cannot replace itself (it runs from a disk image or a folder it cannot write to), it opens the downloaded file and says why.

0.9.2

29 Oct 2026
  • A redesigned Settings window with grouped panels, light and dark appearance, and an interface language: English or Ukrainian, following the system by default.
  • Backspace right after an automatic fix only undoes it; Shift+Backspace also adds the word to Exceptions.
  • Fixes and conversions stay inside the group of layouts you last switched with.
  • Exceptions, learned conversions and excluded apps open in their own windows; apps can be found by name or bundle ID.
  • Layout names follow the system language.
  • Russia and Moscow are no longer capitalised automatically.
  • New installs start with the wrong-layout fix, name capitalisation, learning from manual conversions, double Shift and double space on.
  • Esc closes the Settings window.

0.7.5

29 Oct 2026
  • Learned conversions: a word you convert by hand is converted automatically next time; undoing teaches the opposite.
  • Double Shift converts the selected text.
  • Optional capitalised country and city names, double space to period, and spaced hyphen to dash.
  • Update checks now run at every launch and every 8 hours.

0.7.4

29 Oct 2026
  • Launch at login now works on macOS 12 too.

0.7.3

29 Oct 2026
  • The Layouts tab shows groups as a list on the left and the selected group on the right, so adding groups no longer grows the window.

0.7.2

29 Oct 2026
  • New About Langouste item in the menu, with credits for the data behind the wrong-layout language models.

0.7.1

29 Oct 2026
  • Wrong-layout detection now also knows French, German and Spanish.

0.7.0

29 Oct 2026
  • Fix text typed in the wrong layout: convert the last word or the selection with ⌃⌥Z, change its case with ⌃⌥⇧Z, transliterate with ⌃⌥T.
  • Optional automatic correction as you type (off by default), with a new Text tab for sensitivity, excluded apps and learned exceptions.
  • Sign in to your Langouste account from the new Account tab.
  • A hint in Layouts explains how to stop the system Globe key from opening the emoji picker.

0.6.6

  • The switcher plate can be shown always or only for groups of more than two layouts, in glass or solid, with an adjustable background transparency.

0.6.5

  • Langouste checks for updates once a day and tells you when a new version is out; a menu item checks on demand, and the daily check can be switched off.

0.6.4

  • The Fn (Globe) key can be a shortcut and is now the default; set “Press 🌐 key to” to Do Nothing in Keyboard settings.

0.6.3

  • A window at first launch explains how to give Langouste the Accessibility permission, and closes when it is granted.

0.6.2

  • A new icon palette for the app and the site.

0.6.1

  • Notarized by Apple: the download opens without a warning.

0.6.0

  • The app is now called Langouste, with a new icon and a new menu bar icon.

0.5.0

  • Cycle groups with recorded shortcuts, the switcher plate, the Active switch, and a build for Intel Macs and macOS 12.
