Your word lists
Words never converted, words always converted, and how they sync.
Langouste keeps two lists of words. One holds the words automatic fixing must never touch, the other the words it must always convert. Each entry is a word with a language, and a word is in one list or the other, never both: adding it to one removes it from the other.
Exceptions: never converted
Take the entry wfh with the language English. Typing wfh and a space now leaves it alone, while without the entry Langouste turns it into цар. Words are stored in lower case, with the language of the layout you typed them in.
A word reaches this list when you:
- press Shift+Backspace right after a fix, or press the Convert hotkey right after one;
- undo a conversion you made by hand, while learning from manual conversions is on;
- add it yourself: open Settings, the list of exceptions, type the word and choose its language.
Always convert
Take the entry oj from English to Ukrainian. Typing oj and a space now gives що, even though two letters are below the usual minimum for an automatic fix. In other words: a word typed in one language is always read in the other.
A word reaches this list when you:
- convert a word by hand with the Convert hotkey, a selected single word or the last one, while learning from manual conversions is on. Words of at least two letters qualify;
- add it yourself in the list of conversions: pick the two languages, then type the word or its result, and the other field fills in as you type. The arrow between the menus swaps them. Only languages with a keyboard layout installed on this computer are offered.
A saved result can be clicked and edited like the word; the word follows.
Learned conversions act through automatic fixing, so that has to be on. Digits, addresses and the like are still never touched.
Editing the lists
Each list opens in a window of its own from the text section of Settings, with a remove button on every entry. The excluded apps are a third list, kept apart: apps where Langouste does nothing.
Syncing between devices
Without an account the lists stay on the Mac. With Pro, signed in, both word lists are kept equal between your devices: a word added or removed on one reaches the others at the next sync. The excluded apps and the three text hotkeys sync only between devices of the same system (a Mac with a Mac), and each device chooses which of the three groups it syncs in the account part of Settings. The other text settings, sensitivity for one, stay on each device.
